Kobo Mini broken

My Kobo has lines running across the screen. I had the device for a month before it happened. I carry my Kobo in my bag at all times (I am a daily subway commuter) and with, I may add, a Kobo slip-on case. I am neutral for this complaint only because it has been handled by customer service. I purchased a Kobo e-reader from Chapters in the 2010 Christmas season. 2 days after first operation, the screen went blank. I assumed it was my fault since Chapters wouldn't exchange it.
